On this day, 8 July 1972: Tiger and Jag
Skid Solo was a regular Tiger cover star throughout the 1970s. The clean-cut racing driver was drawn and painted by John Vernon, and Fred Baker wrote the scripts.
Like Tiger’s football strips, Skid’s stories were built around the seasons and competitions of his sport, usually following a similar pattern. A rivalry with an anti-hero driver such as this cocksure American Brendon O’Maly was a familiar trope, and good fun.
