The first submariner? Thunder ran informative, respectable front covers for most of its 22-issue run, but inside it was packed with high adventure.

The lead strip was the deliciously dark Black Max, wartime master of a colony of giant vampire bats. Ken Mennell was the writer and Alfonso Font the artist on this classic tale, brilliantly reimagined by Kek-W and Simon Coleby this Halloween, in Rebellion’s Scream! and Misty special.
