Shirley Bellwood: a gallery of her Misty covers

Earlier today Keith Richardson posted this message on the ‘Get MISTY Back In Print!’ Facebook page:

‘Hello all.
‘As you know we (Rebellion) are currently putting together a Misty trade collection which will be released later this year. I was hoping to get Shirley Bellwood to provide us with an introduction and have been trying to make contact with her for the last two months.
‘Having just found a home number for her, I found out today that Shirley died back in January. I don't know what exactly she thought about Misty, but I for one think that she was a massive talent who deserves a lot more recognition for her work in the industry.’

As Keith says, Shirley was an incredible talent and I know her work made a huge impression on so many of those people who were fortunate enough to be readers of Misty at the time it was published. She brought life and mood to the eponymous, ethereal character of Misty who wrote an editorial on the inside front cover of just about every issue, and also produced stunning black and white illustrations to accompany each of these messages for the readers. Her work does indeed deserve to be better known, and with that in mind I’ve created a gallery of her Misty covers.

NB. Please do let me know if I’ve missed any front cover images. Also, I apologise for the occasional smudge, tear or pen mark as these are scanned from my own ageing collection.
