On this day, 27 May 1978 … There’s a cool Top Tip in today’s Whoopee!: ‘Dear Editor, For those readers who enjoy writing, but find plain paper a bit boring – why not cut out the characters from Whoopee!, and stick them along the top of the paper? You can also stick one on the envelope. It looks really great!’ Nice one, Julie Gillis from Hemingbrough. Ignoring the sacrilege of cutting up a precious cultural artefact, this is pretty much the thinking behind my blog. Words are great, but the outstanding artwork of IPC’s artists should be celebrated for ever and sent all around the world.

I hope you enjoy the memories below from one of Whoopee!’s peak years. Why not share them with a friend?

(By the way, check out tax-dodging The Bumpkin Billionaires for a brilliant take-down of the privatisation of the railways! I’m sure Richard Fucking Branson also bursts into tears every time he has one of those sacks of pesky profits delivered to his paradise island. At least Pa and co. put a bit of heart into it.)
